Main Street: 12

West Plain St: 9

This year’s format shifts from last summer’s “Showcase” in which four grade-based teams competed in a round-robin tournament. The 2012 version has firmed up the talent and will put two teams on the field Friday night.

The West Plain team consists of Haffey, Redfin, Mastodon, and Parmenter. With two of the top three teams in the league making up the majority of the roster, some may consider them the favorites. Kevin Balben appears in his sixth all-star game while EJ Nicholas and Dana Sharry enter their fourth contest in as many years.

While the bats of guys like Kevin Keane and Dana Sharry get them on the field for Friday. “It’s always an honor to be voted in,” said Sharry. “Great to get out there with the guys. Always more of a fun experience than anything else. It will probably be my last year, so it is great to be involved and also a good way to bring the younger guys and future captains together.”

Other players such as Alex Hill and Nick Hodge have gained strong recognition for their play at short and third. While experience reigns supreme, newcomers for West Plain include Ben Caples, Keane, Dylan and Takoda Register.

Team Main Street, although shorter on combined wins this season, brings together the best of the best from Pro-Tech, John C. Bryant, Henley’s, and Liberty Pizza. Main Street is led by Wade Critides and Ryan Pesaturo, who have compiled two of the more impressive years offensively in the six-year history of the league. Main Street also has six first-time all-stars with Patrick Sharry, Joe Fargnoli, Alex Chu, Riley Starr, and Jon Calnan.

While the winner does not gain home field advantage for playoffs; it does give the league a chance to recognize the individual achievement of some of its best players. Come out and join us for the sixth annual all-star game at 7 Friday night at the Cochituate Ballpark.
